Project Case Studies
Village of Granisle Fire Hall Biomass Furnace Project
The Village of Granisle Fire Hall Biomass Furnace Project is a Case Study that profiles the installation of a containerized wood chip boiler to heat their 200 m² fire hall. The new system has reduced energy costs by 50%.
Lillooet Biomass Heating System
The Lillooet Community Biomass Energy Project (BEP) was a $705,000 capital investment to install a new pellet boiler and upgrade the Lillooet Recreation Centre (REC) heating system. The project involved replacing one of the older propane boilers with a new 400 kW KOB pellet boiler. The new boiler supplies 80-85% of the heat demand for the entire REC. The project also saw upgrades done to the building heating system and the joining of the two separate heating systems. The pellet boiler is housed in a standalone container outside the building. There is also a 45-tonne pellet storage silo.
District of Lake Country Micro‐Hydro Power Plant
The purpose of this Case Study Report is to provide a summary description of the development of the District of Lake Country’s micro-hydro power plant. The District’s leadership in developing the project has been recognized both provincially and nationally and has won the District several awards. As a result of the success of the District of Lake Country’s project, the District receives numerous requests for information on the project. In addition, local governments and First Nations throughout BC are increasingly examining the feasibility of developing and investing in micro-hydro power projects and are interested in learning from existing successful examples. This Case Study report was created by a partnership between the District of Lake Country and the Green Energy as a Rural Development Tool Project to provide this more detailed case study information.
China Creek Case Study Report
The China Creek Micro-Hydro Project began in 2001 when the Hupacasath First Nation focused on new forms of economic development. The project’s primary goal was to develop and build capacity amongst the Nation that could be applied in future opportunities. The project was also intended to create wealth and contribute to future generations’ economic and employment situation. This case study examines lessons learned to date.
